Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) underwent an Energy Efficiency Audit conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE) on March 25, 2025. The audit aimed to evaluate the institution’s energy conservation practices and ensure compliance with government energy management standards.

The audit followed Administrative Order No. 15, s. 2024, issued by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., which mandates all government entities to accelerate the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP). The order supports DOE’s mission to enhance energy efficiency and conservation in the public sector.

The program commenced with welcome remarks from Lani B. Alcon, MPA, Chief Administrative, followed by the rationale of the energy audit presented by Marc Martinez, Senior Science Research Specialist from the Department of Energy. University President Samson L. Molao, EdD, delivered a message of support, highlighting SKSU’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

The DOE audit team conducted an extensive evaluation of the university’s energy consumption policies and practices. The audit covered office policies, electricity conservation practices, and fuel conservation strategies. Key areas assessed included the use of efficient lighting, temperature control, air conditioning schedules, and the maintenance of university vehicles.

The university achieved an outstanding score of 90.21% and earned a prestigious “A” grade, reflecting SKSU’s exemplary commitment to energy efficiency. The audit recognized SKSU’s implementation of effective energy practices, such as the use of LED lighting, inverter technology appliances, and maintaining room temperatures below 24°C. Additionally, the university was commended for its fuel conservation efforts, including the implementation of a preventive maintenance schedule and monitoring of vehicle dispatch and fuel consumption.

The event concluded with the presentation of the audit report. The audit results stand as a testament to SKSU’s dedication to promoting energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Looking ahead, SKSU plans to further enhance its energy management practices by integrating renewable energy sources such as solar power in key campus buildings, upgrading older equipment to more energy-efficient models, and expanding energy conservation awareness programs for students and staff. The university is also committed to exploring smart energy monitoring systems to ensure continuous optimization of energy consumption.
