MANILA, Philippines — Sultan Kudarat State University President Atty. Cyrus E. Torreña, DPA, MNSA met with Rep. Jude A. Acidre, Chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education and a member of the SKSU Board of Regents, on September 2, 2026, as part of the University’s continuing effort to strengthen partnerships and seek greater support for its development priorities.
The cordial meeting gave President Torreña an opportunity to personally thank Congressman Acidre for his support to SKSU and to discuss areas where stronger collaboration can help the University respond to the needs of its students, academic programs, campuses, and communities.
President Torreña emphasized that moving SKSU forward will require not only the collective work of people within the University, but also meaningful partnerships with government leaders and institutions that share its commitment to accessible and quality higher education.
The meeting also opened discussions on how the University can strengthen its engagement with Congress as it pursues programs and initiatives aimed at improving academic delivery, facilities, institutional capacity, and opportunities for students and faculty.
With Congressman Acidre’s role in higher education legislation and as a member of the SKSU Board of Regents, the University looks forward to a productive partnership that can help bring its development agenda closer to realization.
Joining President Torreña during the visit was SKSU Board Secretary Ms. Lynette G. Peniero.
For President Torreña, the meeting reflects a simple approach to leadership: SKSU cannot grow by working in isolation. The University must reach out, build relationships, and bring people together around opportunities that will benefit its students and communities.
The engagement reflects SKSU’s commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the University strengthens collaboration with government and other stakeholders to advance quality, inclusive, and accessible higher education. This direction supports President Torreña’s call for “Leading with Integrity, Advancing Excellence.”
