Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) held a coordination meeting via Google Meet on September 11, 2026, to discuss the status and next steps for the proposed Islamic Studies program and the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. The discussion focused on the preparation of feasibility studies, activity designs, surveys, benchmarking activities, budgetary requirements, and other preparatory measures for the proposed academic programs.
The meeting was led by Dr. Alan A. Maglantay, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the need for a systematic assessment of the proposed Islamic Studies program. The Technical Working Group was tasked to review applicable program requirements, conduct a survey, benchmark with institutions offering similar programs, and assess the availability of qualified faculty members and specialists.
Mr. Saiden P. Akmad, MAT, was likewise directed to prepare the required activity design and feasibility study and to incorporate the necessary budget for benchmarking, field activities, transportation, and other related requirements. The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs will support the necessary expenses, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and the availability of funds.
The meeting also discussed the proposed Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, which will remain in the University’s program development pipeline while SKSU continues to assess the faculty requirements, facilities, laboratories, and other resources needed for its possible offering. These requirements will also be considered in the University’s strategic planning activities.
The discussion underscored SKSU’s commitment to developing academic programs through careful planning, feasibility assessment, and alignment with the University’s strategic priorities before implementation.
The initiative also supports the 2026–2030 Institutional Transformation Framework of University President Atty. Cyrus E. Torrena, DPA, MNSA, particularly the strategic directions on Academic Excellence, Student Success, and Future-Ready Learning, and Inclusive Development, Cultural Diversity, and Sustainable Futures. The proposed programs reflect the University’s direction toward expanding relevant academic opportunities, responding to the needs and diversity of its communities, and strengthening programs that contribute to regional development.
The activity supports SDG 4 – Quality Education through the development of relevant and responsive academic programs, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities by expanding opportunities for culturally responsive higher education, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through benchmarking, consultation, and institutional collaboration.
