ILOILO CITY — Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) explained how student fees, entrepreneurship studies and faculty time are organized during its hosting of the Sultan Kudarat State University Faculty Association, Inc. (SKSU-FAI) during its benchmarking visit on September 30, 2026, at its La Paz campus in Iloilo City.
The SKSU-FAI’s looked into the interest in the university’s engineering and industrial technology facilities, the integration of technical-vocational instruction into university curricula, and faculty governance and welfare.
Dr. Jun Badoles, Vice President for External Affairs, led the discussion on external affairs. He described a parents’ affairs function in which parents take part in fee development, capacity building, marketing and entrepreneurship activities. External affairs also covers international linkages and student internships and on-the-job training.
Other key points included n the discussions are ISAT U’s faculty association as a federated body spanning five campuses, student fees form part of the university’s fiduciary fee and entrepreneurship programs such as the feasibility or market study is likewise covered by that fee.
Faculty-initiated activities shape the work week. Every Wednesday, faculty hold a midweek reset from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Fridays are work-from-home days. For online classes, the university’s Management Information System developed an online time-in and time-out system, and faculty submit written accomplishment reports.
As part of the program, the SKSU-FAI delegation conducted a guided tour of ISAT U’s College of Engineering and its Research & Development Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) facilities. The walkthrough highlighted ISAT U’s industrial prototyping capabilities and technical infrastructure, particularly its international partnership with China’s Liaoning Jianzhu Vocational College (in coordination with Yalong Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd.). Through this collaboration, ISAT U established the Mozi Workshop, equipping its engineering and R&D laboratories with advanced automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing equipment to support Industry 4.0 technical education and technology transfer.
ISAT U provided the SKSU-FAI delegation with practical frameworks for local adaptation. The engagement concluded with both institutions reaffirming their intent to collaborate on future policy and welfare benchmarks.
