Every third Sunday of June, the world celebrates the Fathers’ Day to acknowledge and honor the unwavering commitment, love and sacrifices of all the fathers in the world.

Although a little late than the actual day of celebration, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) still value the significance of this event and celebrated the Fathers’ Day last June 30, 2023, Friday at the SKSU Gymnasium, ACCESS Campus, Province of Sultan Kudarat.

Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) Director, Dr. Susie Daza, this activity aims to pay tribute and commemorate the incredible fathers of SKSU who are an integral part of shaping the SKSU and its community.

The celebration isn’t limited to honoring the male fathers of SKSU as well, Dr. Daza made sure to also honor the inang-tatay (inatays) or mothers who fulfill responsibilities usually carried out by their male counterparts, and other individuals who act as ‘fathers’ to their respective ‘children’.

The activity kicked off with a volleyball match between the non-teaching and teaching personnel of SKSU, followed by a short program and trivia quiz.

The highlight of the day was the Basketball match between the same teams which was tipped off by a warm-up shooting game where everybody take turns in shooting the ball from the free-throw line.

President Samson L. Molao, Vice President for Academics – Dr. Jesusa D. Ortuoste, ACCESS Campus Director – Dr. Ernie C. Cerado and other key officials of SKSU also joined in the fun of the shooting game as well.

The basketball game was briefly paused at the end of the third quarter to give way for the interview of the father of SKSU, President Samson Molao in a talk-show-esque fashion.

President Molao shared his experiences as a father, his relationship with his children and also gave tips to all the current and soon-to-be dads in the university.

When asked about his take on the theme of the activity – Makabagong Juan, Tugon sa Milenyong Kabataan – the president replied with a firm and immediate answer: “being a father in today’s time, we should all strive to understand our children”, implying the evidence of cultural gap between generations that can easily be addressed with proper communication and understanding.

The activity ended with a photo opportunity, the final quarter of the basketball game and lunch.
