April 3, 2025 – The final day of evaluation for the Kape Dose Coffee Quality Competition 2025 commenced today at the SKSU Coffee Cupping Laboratory and Barista Training Center, marking the conclusion of the rigorous assessment process for this year’s finest coffee entries in Region 12.
Led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 12, the competition aims to promote coffee excellence and strengthen the local coffee value chain. A total of 99 entries were submitted, comprising 90 Robusta and 9 Arabica coffee varieties from Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato Province, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.
A distinguished panel of Robusta, Arabica, and Green Grader Judges, along with Master Roasters from various institutions and coffee enterprises, conducted the evaluation. The assessment focused on essential coffee quality factors, including aroma, flavor, acidity, body, and aftertaste, ensuring that only the best brews advance to the final ranking.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. By hosting the event, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) supports skill development, research, and innovation in the local coffee industry.
With the evaluation phase now completed, anticipation builds for the awarding ceremony on April 4, 2025, at the Sultan Kudarat Convention Center, where the finest coffee producers in Region 12 will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the industry.
