
Tacurong City—The Kape Dose Coffee Quality Competition 2025 concluded with a prestigious awarding ceremony held at the Sultan Kudarat Convention Center on April 4, 2025. The event, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), highlighted the province’s commitment to the coffee industry and recognized outstanding local coffee farmers for their excellence in coffee production.
Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) played a significant role in supporting the event, with University President Dr. Samson L. Molao delivering a message of support. SKSU has been actively engaging in programs that uplift local coffee farmers through research, training, and partnerships, reinforcing the province’s status as a prime coffee-producing region. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by fostering research, innovation, and skill development in the coffee industry.
The awarding ceremony honored winners from both the Robusta and Arabica categories. In the Robusta category, Orlando Bayudan from Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat, claimed the championship, followed by Idelberto Deramos, also from Sen. Ninoy Aquino, as the second-place winner. Rodello Calunsag from Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, secured third place. Meanwhile, in the Arabica category, Di Famor Cagayan from Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat, emerged as the champion. Jessie Castor, also from Sen. Ninoy Aquino, earned second place, while Ma. Fe Beatingo from Alamada, Cotabato Province, took third place.
The event also saw the presence of Hon. Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu, Provincial Governor of Sultan Kudarat, who delivered a closing message emphasizing the local government’s unwavering support for coffee farmers. He reaffirmed ongoing efforts to enhance the coffee industry through policy support, market linkages, and sustainable farming initiatives.
The Kape Dose Coffee Quality Competition continues to serve as a platform to promote the province’s coffee industry, ensuring that local farmers receive the recognition and support they deserve. With institutions like SKSU and the provincial government backing these initiatives, the future of coffee production in Sultan Kudarat remains promising.
