On July 30, 2025, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) undertook a benchmarking activity at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) located in Kabacan, Cotabato. This initiative aimed to explore and adopt effective internationalization strategies to enhance SKSU’s global competitiveness. The activity underscores SKSU’s dedication to advancing academic excellence and fostering global partnerships. Moreover, it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Quality Education (SDG 4) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), reinforcing the university’s commitment to sustainable and collaborative growth on the international stage.

The activity was attended by the SKSU key officials, including Dr. Marites B. Java, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Atty. Sultan G. Sinenggayan, Director for International Affairs and External Linkages; Dr. Rodelyn M. Dalayap, Director for Quality Assurance; Prof. Michael Kennedy G. Camarao, Director for Instruction; Dr. Mark Jovic A. Daday, Management Information System Focal Person; along with other delegates.

They were warmly welcomed by Prof. Bryan Lloyd P. Bretana, the Director for International Affairs of the USM. During the exchange, USM highlighted its exemplary practices in international partnerships, student and faculty mobility, collaborative research initiatives, and cross-cultural programs. These strategies exemplify how higher education institutions can cultivate inclusive and equitable learning environments while fostering sustainable collaboration across borders.

In his message, an SKSU official emphasized that the benchmarking activity represents a crucial milestone in advancing the university’s internationalization roadmap. By learning from USM’s initiatives, SKSU aims to incorporate global standards into its curriculum, research, and extension programs. This approach is designed to equip both students and faculty with the skills and competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly globalized world. Furthermore, the activity aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting research partnerships that address real-world challenges and contribute to sustainable development in Mindanao and beyond. Both SKSU and USM expressed strong optimism for future collaborative efforts emerging from this benchmarking visit.
