The Honorable Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Pena, the DOST secretary visited Sultan Kudarat State University on June 4, 2022. The secretary with his team visited the two satellite campuses of SKSU, the SKSU Isulan and SKSU Lutayan which has a DOST funded projects.
Sec. Dela Pena, together with his team first visited the SKSU Isulan Campus, he made a tour of the Complementary Food Production and Innovation Center and witnessed the showcase of DOST-ATTBI Products and Food Processing Products. They enjoyed the KAPEHAN where they have tasted the coffee and food products of the University.
A short program was conducted to formally honor the DOST secretary and other guests namely: Dir. Richard P. Burgos, Director of DOST -STII, and Dir. Sammy P. Malawan, DOST Region XII Director . They were welcomed by the University President Dr. Rolando F. Hechanova, RPAE, Ph.D. Dr. Hechanova also expressed his gratitude for all the support the DOST gave to the University that made the university more productive. Sec. Dela Pena on the other hand gave his inspirational message. He was impressed by the different products produced, he encouraged the production and utilization of the product. Dir. Sammy P.Malawan also gave his message of thanks to the two agencies who strengthen their ties through different funded projects that help the community.
After the Isulan Campus visit, the Secretary with his DOST team proceeded to Lutayan Campus, for the Turn Over of the Halal Goat Innovation Center and the awarding of the Certificate on License to Operate by NMIS Regional Director. The Halal Slaughter House conducted a demonstration of the halal way of slaughtering a goat.
This visit sealed off SKSU and DOST’s strong Partnership in Bringing Science to people. At present, DOST has funded 9 projects in the University. The following are some funded projects in the university: Roll-out of Complementary Food Production in the Region, High Impact Technology Solutions (DOST-HITS) Roll -Out Project-Food Innovation Center RXII, and Development of Halal-compliant restructured goat meat product.
