Fueling the Future: SKSU Holds Consultation Meeting for Proposed BS Petroleum Engineering Program in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat

January 6, 2026 – Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) conducted a consultation meeting for the proposed establishment of a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering program at the Municipality of Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, marking a significant step toward expanding the university’s academic offerings. The consultation brought together key stakeholders from the university, government, and the local community to discuss the feasibility, relevance, and potential impact of the proposed program.

Leading the activity was Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XII Director, RD Rody Garcia, who provided guidance on policy standards, program requirements, and quality assurance mechanisms necessary for the establishment of the degree program. RD Garcia underscored the importance of aligning academic programs with CHED standards. Also, present was University President Dr. Samson L. Molao, who emphasized the university’s commitment to providing industry-responsive programs that will equip students with specialized skills and contribute to workforce development. Representing the Local Government Unit of Lambayong was Mr. Noel Catajay, on behalf of Hon. Eric Recinto, Municipal Mayor of Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. The LGU expressed its support for the proposed program, citing its potential to open new educational and employment opportunities for local youth and to contribute to the municipality’s long-term economic growth.

During the meeting, participants discussed curriculum design, faculty and facility requirements, industry linkages, and community support. Inputs and recommendations from stakeholders were gathered to further strengthen the proposal before its formal submission and evaluation.

The consultation reflects SKSU’s commitment in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it expand access to specialized, high-quality higher education in the region and highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration.
