Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks the Start of SKSU-ACCESS Pedestrian Overpass Construction

March 27, 2025 – Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) officially commenced the construction of a pedestrian overpass in front of its ACCESS Campus in EJC Montilla, Tacurong City, with a groundbreaking ceremony.

SKSU President Dr. Samson L. Molao led the event, delivering a warm welcome address that underscored the university’s dedication to enhancing campus safety and accessibility. He emphasized that the pedestrian overpass is a testament to SKSU’s unwavering commitment to student welfare and community development.

Highlighting the provincial government’s strong support for the initiative, Sultan Kudarat Provincial Governor Hon. Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu delivered an encouraging message, recognizing the project’s vital role in ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and residents. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that prioritize public welfare and sustainable development.

Also expressing his support, Tacurong City Mayor Hon. Joseph George L. Lechonsito acknowledged the project’s contribution to improving pedestrian safety and easing traffic congestion in the area.

The pedestrian overpass is expected to provide a secure crossing for students and residents, addressing long-standing safety concerns along the busy road in front of the university. Local officials, university administrators, and community members attended the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in SKSU’s ongoing infrastructure development efforts.

This project supports Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9): Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which focuses on building safe and modern infrastructure for sustainable development. By constructing the pedestrian overpass, SKSU helps create a safer and more accessible environment for students and the community.

Construction is set to begin immediately, with completion targeted within the year.
