ICoNSIE 2024 Recognizes Outstanding Researches on Nature Studies and Innovation

July 19, 2024- The International Conference on Nature Studies and Innovation for the Environment (ICoNSIE) 2024, awarded and gave prestigious acknowledgement to the Outstanding Innovative and Environmental Research Papers during the concluded Research Paper Conference held at Sultan Kudarat Provincial Sports Complex, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. Outstanding Researchers were awarded for the Best Paper and Best Poster.

The Best Paper Award was conferred upon Dr. Aekbal Salleh from the Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability Development at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia for her pioneering research titled “Quantification of the Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI) of Klang Valley via Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Equal Weighted Index (EWI).” Dr. Salleh, who also served as the First Plenary Speaker at the conference, led a team of distinguished researchers, including Normaisurah Samsuddin, Nafisah Khalid, Noraain Mohamed Saraf, Rostam Yaman, Lynlei Pintor, and Girlie Rueda.

Dr. Salleh’s achievement, along with her co-researchers, underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing critical environmental challenges. Their work not only advances academic knowledge but also offers practical solutions to enhance the resilience of urban communities against climate-related threats.

The Best Poster Award was garnered by Darshel Ester Estor, MSc and Sharon Rose Tabugo, PhD, from Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology, for their innovative research titled “EDNA: Environmental DNA for Diatom Non-invasive Assessment for Biomonitoring in Bayug Island, Iligan City, Philippines.” Their work demonstrated the potential of environmental DNA in non-invasively monitoring diatom populations, offering a novel approach to biomonitoring and environmental conservation.

Second and third place were awarded to the Integrated Education Department of San Isidro College for their poster titled “Phytochemical Analysis and Wound Healing Potential of Aloe Vera (Aloe massawana) Peel Extract” and to Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology entitled “Assessment of Coral Reefs in Hinatuan Island, Philippines, and Its Implications for Conservation”, respectively.

During the awarding ceremony, the importance of Innovative Research on Natural Environment and its contribution to societal needs was emphasized and highlighted. The conference attendees were deeply impressed by the high caliber of presentations and the depth of research showcased, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the scientific community to safeguarding our planet’s future
