Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) marked a significant milestone on July 5, 2024, as it celebrated its 33rd Commencement Exercises. Held at the Sultan Kudarat Sports and Cultural Center, the event, themed “SKSU Legacy: Inspiring Leadership and Conquering Contemporary Adversities,” saw the graduation of 2,500 students.
Honorable Vice Mayor Lina O. Montilla graced the occasion as the esteemed Commencement Speaker. In her speech, Vice Mayor Montilla lauded the graduates for their perseverance and resilience, emphasizing the importance of overcoming challenges and humble beginnings. Reflecting on the University’s journey from a humble polytechnic college to its current status, she drew parallels to her own experiences as a student, a young professional, and the first and only lady mayor of the city.
“Success will come at your own time and pace, but at times, you have to take a risk by making a choice,” Vice Mayor Montilla encouraged the graduates.
The ceremony also featured the conferment of a Doctor in Institutional Development and Management, Honoris Causa, to Vice Mayor Lina O. Montilla. In a touching gesture, she was also adopted as the second daughter of the University, underscoring her significant contributions and enduring relationship with SKSU.
Adding to the day’s highlights, the Commencement Exercises boasted a notable number of high-achieving graduates, including 8 magna cum laude and 79 cum laude honorees, further exemplifying the University’s commitment to academic excellence.
The 33rd Commencement Exercises of SKSU not only celebrated the achievements of its graduates but also underscored the institution’s enduring legacy of inspiring leadership and conquering contemporary adversities.
