August 13, 2026 — On his first day and within his first hour in office as the 5th University President of Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), Atty. Cyrus E. Torrena, DPA, MNSA, immediately met with the officers of the University Student Government (USG), demonstrating his commitment to putting students at the center of his administration.
Led by Student Regent Hon. Zandra Kate Asturias, the meeting focused on various concerns, issues, and matters affecting the student body. The gathering provided student leaders an opportunity to directly raise their concerns, share their perspectives, and discuss matters requiring the University’s attention and support.
During the meeting, Atty. Torrena emphasized his commitment to listening to students and ensuring that their concerns are addressed. He firmly expressed his stance, stating, “I am a pro-student.” He further conveyed his sense of responsibility toward the thousands of students under his leadership, telling the student leaders, “I am your father and you are all my children.” The statement reflected Atty. Torrena’s intention to lead not only as the University’s highest official but also as a leader who seeks to guide, support, and look after the welfare of the student body.
As he begins his tenure as the University’s fifth president, Atty. Torrena’s first-hour meeting with student leaders sets the tone for an administration that values student voices and seeks to build a more responsive, inclusive, and student-centered SKSU.
