Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) secured 2nd place overall in the 2026 ASEAN Competition as part of Team Brunei during the ASEAN Month Awarding and Culmination Program held on August 27 at the Sultan Kudarat Convention Center. SKSU was also presented with a Certificate of Commendation by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XII.
The event, hosted by SKSU in partnership with CHED Regional Office XII, brought together presidents and representatives of various higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region. SKSU President Atty. Cyrus E. Torrena, DPA, MNSA attended the program and delivered a message of appreciation during the ceremony.
Team Brunei was composed of representatives from SKSU’s ACCESS, Bagumbayan, Isulan, Kalamansig, Lutayan, Palimbang, and Tacurong Campuses, together with VMC Asian College Foundation, Inc., VMC Asian College of President Quirino, Inc., and West Celebes College of Technology Incorporated. The team’s overall performance placed it second among participating teams in the 2026 ASEAN Competition.
SKSU also received institutional recognition from CHED Regional Office XII Director Rody P. Garcia, MDM, JD, EdD for its international standing in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), with the University ranked 66th in the C1 Category, 78th in C2, and 87th in A4. The University was likewise recognized for its strong performance in the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), with SKSU Tacurong ranking 8th nationwide among top-performing schools in the Secondary Level, posting an 81.82 percent passing rate with 162 of 198 examinees passing. Several SKSU graduates also placed among the national topnotchers in both the Elementary and Secondary levels.
The recognitions highlight SKSU’s continuing performance in academic excellence, internationalization, innovation, and regional collaboration. The event also advanced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by promoting educational cooperation, institutional partnerships, and stronger ASEAN engagement among higher education institutions.
