SKSU embarks for ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Despite of the holiday rush and excitement, the Sultan Kudarat State University after months of preparations, embarks ISO Certification. This is in adherence to Administrative Order No. 161 entitled “Institutionalizing Quality Management System in Government” as amended by Executive Order No. 605 “encouraging Local Government Units (LGUs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Constitutional offices to establish ISOQuality Management Systems and pursue certification. This said endeavor is an offshoot of the University goal to provide better services to its stakeholders as it establishes a Quality Management System (QMS) for instruction, research, extension, production, support to operations, advance education and Administration. The stage I Certification Audit started last December 28, 2018 at one thirty in the afternoon with an opening meeting held at the University Board Room. It started with preliminaries; it was formally opened by a welcome message of the University President, Rolando F. Hechanova, RPAE, Ph.D. It was followed by the Presentation of Organizational Profile through Video Graphic Advertisement. Mrs. Lynette G. Peniero, the Board Secretary, introduced the key officials, Process Owners and Auditee(s).

To give a bird’s eye view of the Stage 1 Certification Audit , Mr. Adarne E. Crispo, from the Bureau Veritas Certification Philippines, presented the objectives which is to validate the scope, to confirm that the management system adequately covers all the requirements of the audit standard, to confirm that the fundamental elements of the management system are implemented including at least one cycle of internal audit and management review, to confirm the readiness of the organization for a complete system(stage 2) audit , and to collect the relevant information for effectively planning complete system (stage 2) audit.

To cope with the limited time, the Auditor proceed to the review of documents. He scrutinized the processes and interviewed the President, Vice Presidents, and other concern personnel.

The ISO journey was spearheaded by the ISO Management Team headed by President, Dr. Rolando F. Hechanova, Dr. Hedelina U. Ibot, the VP for Finance Services, Dr. Ernie C. Cerado, VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mary Lynn G. Magbanua VP for Research Development and Extension Services, and Dir. Lani B. Alcon, QMS Committee Champion.

Prior to the Stage 1 Audit, this ISO undertaking is a project which was assisted by the JBDC Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Consultancy. Series of activities were conducted such as: Gap Assessment, ISO awareness, QMS Documentation, QMS Risk and Opportunity Training, and Implementation of QMS Procedures 7 S training.

The Stage 1 Certification Audit ended on December 29, 2018 with a exit meeting at the University Board Room at four o’clock in the afternoon. He recommended SKSU for the Stage 2 Audit. The President, Dr. Hechanova, on the other hand expressed his warmest gratitude to the Auditor who painstakingly reviewed the documents.

The SKSU journey towards ISO certification is indeed a collaborative effort of the entire University from the top management to the utility personnel. This endeavor is another milestone for SKSU which eventually marks a legacy to all SKSUans.
