Inauguration of Forensic Molecular Biology Center and DOST-SKSU STEP APP TBI in Sultan Kudarat State University

On July 1, 2024, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) proudly inaugurated the Forensic Molecular Biology Center (FMBC) and the DOST-SKSU STEP APP Technology Business Incubator (TBI), both funded by the Department of Science and Technology – PCIEERD. This significant event marks a milestone in the region’s commitment to scientific advancement and innovation.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed key officials from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), including Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, the Regional Director of DOST Regional Office XII. Dr. Ruby Raterta, the Chief, Human Resource and Institution Development Division (HRIDD), represented the Executive Director of DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIERRD), Dr. Enrico Paringit. Also present were Engr. Edward Apigo and Ms. Zenaida Guiano, contributing to the esteemed guest list.

Representatives from SKSU’s administration were also in attendance, with Dr. Ernie C. Cerado, Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented the OIC President. Joining him were Dr. Mary Lynn G. Magbanua, Vice President for Research Development and Extension, along with Dr. Vincent Louie Cabelin, the project leader of the FMBC, and Dr. Shiela M. Bayquin, the project leader for the DOST-SKSU STEP APP TBI.

During the opening program, Dr. Ernie C. Cerado and Engr. Sammy P. Malawan delivered inspiring messages of support, highlighting the importance of these initiatives in fostering scientific research and development in the region. Messages of encouragement and support were also conveyed by the Executive Director of DOST PCIERRD and Hon. Ramon Losanes, the City Administrator, who represented the Office of the City Mayor.

Following the program, attendees proceeded to the FMBC and DOST-SKSU STEP APP TBI offices for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a short tour of the new facilities. The state-of-the-art FMBC is poised to become a hub for advanced forensic research, while the STEP APP TBI will serve as a catalyst for technology-driven entrepreneurial ventures in the province.

The event concluded with a media conference, where several media partners engaged in an informative session with key officials. Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, Dr. Ernie C. Cerado, Dr. Mary Lynn G. Magbanua, and the two project leaders, Dr. Vincent Louie Cabelin and Dr. Shiela M. Bayquin, addressed various questions from the media, providing deeper insights into the projects and their anticipated impact.

The inauguration of the FMBC and the DOST-SKSU STEP APP TBI marks a significant step forward for Sultan Kudarat State University and the region’s scientific community, promising a future filled with innovation, research, and development.
