General Santos City – Sultan Kudarat State University – College of Health Sciences (SKSU-CHS) demonstrated excellence in research as it actively took part in the 2nd Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) SOCCSKSARGEN Region Public Health Research Forum, held on March 17–18, 2026, at Greenleaf Hotel.
Highlighting the institution’s strong research culture, two studies conducted by Bachelor of Science in Nursing Level IV students were selected for oral presentation during the forum. Ms. Precious Hope G. Pat-i presented her research titled “Strengthening Community Health Systems: Barangay Health Workers’ Role and Effectiveness in Disaster Preparedness and Response in Sultan Kudarat” which earned the distinction of Third Best Research Paper in the Undergraduate Category. Meanwhile, Shahany A. Napoles delivered her study, “Awareness, Utilization, and Acceptance of Youth on Established Adolescent Friendly Health Facilities in Esperanza” contributing valuable insights into youth engagement in healthcare services. The student researchers were supported by their co-researchers, research advisers, college research coordinator, program chairpersons, and the college dean, reflecting a strong collaborative effort within the institution.
This accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering support of University President Dr. Samson L. Molao, whose leadership continues to strengthen Health Sciences programs and advance academic and research excellence. It represents a significant milestone in the field of public health research and highlights the dedication of future nursing professionals to developing evidence-based solutions. Their efforts contribute to building more resilient, responsive, and sustainable healthcare systems within communities.
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this achievement strongly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it promotes research-driven approaches to improving community health systems and healthcare access. It also advances the active engagement of students in high-impact research and fosters collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
