CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — In a move to reinforce institutional accountability and uphold ethical standards in scholarly research, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) sent seven faculty members to the Training-Workshop on Research Ethics Management and Institutional Integrity, facilitated by the International Association of Scholarly Publishers, Editors and Reviewers, Inc. (IASPER), on October 15–17, 2026, at VIP Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The University was represented by Iril I. Panes, PhD, RN; Elmer C. Buenavides, DIT; Richard S. Toledo, MIE; Joycelle C. Lumogdang, MAT; Rizalyn B. Cudera, MS; Graciela Lou M. Nallos, MAN, RN; and Franklin E. Menor, MAN, RN, RM., whose participation reflects SKSU’s continuing efforts to strengthen research governance and institutional integrity.

The three-day training focused on enhancing institutional research ethics management, strengthening Research Ethics Committees (RECs) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), addressing research misconduct and conflicts of interest, and developing practical strategies for managing emerging ethical challenges in scholarly research.

At the institutional level, the training is expected to contribute to the improvement of SKSU’s research ethics policies, review procedures, and accountability mechanisms. The knowledge acquired may serve as a basis for strengthening ethical oversight, developing capacity-building programs for faculty and student researchers, and ensuring that research activities consistently uphold the rights, safety, and welfare of research participants.

The initiative also advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and well-being) through ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages , SDG 4 (Quality Education) through research capacity-building and professional development, and SDG 10 (Reduce Inequalities) through reducing inequality within and among countries. It further supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by encouraging responsible innovation and professional collaboration.

Through this engagement, SKSU continues to strengthen its institutional capacity to produce credible, ethically sound, and socially responsive research, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence, responsible knowledge production, and sustainable development.
