The recently concluded 37th AACCUP National Conference and General Assembly, held from March 20th to 22nd, 2024, at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Metro Manila, marked a significant milestone in the field of education. The event brought together a distinguished gathering of experts, practitioners, and leaders from higher education institutions (HEIs) nationwide, focusing on quality assurance and accreditation.
Notably, SKSU’s delegation comprised esteemed members, including OIC President Dr. Jesusa D. Ortuoste, VPAA Dr. Ernie C. Cerado, VPRDE Dr. Mary Lynn Magbanua, Director for Instruction Dr. Marites Java, along with Dr. Elvie Diaz, Dr. Allan Jay Cajandig, Dr. Geraldine Quillo, Dr. Badu Panimbang, Mr. Rey Gelladuga, Mr. Rodel Mohammad, the QA Director, and Ms. Crizjale V. Ahmad, the University Accreditation Chairperson.
The conference commenced with an inaugural program featuring Dr. Karol Mark Yee, Executive Director of the Second Congressional Commission on Education of the Philippines (EDCOM 2), who delivered the keynote speech, setting an inspiring tone for subsequent discussions.
The first plenary session, “Best Practices on Sustaining a Workplace Culture of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education,” highlighted insights from Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, and Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. SKSU delegates actively engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing quality assurance processes and fostering a culture of excellence in HEIs.
Day 2 of the conference featured a synthesis of previous discussions and the second plenary session on “Strengthening Institutional Policies and Governance on Quality Assurance and Accreditation for Sustainable Development of HEIs,” led by Dr. Ma. Cynthia Rose B. Bautista. Emphasis was placed on robust governance structures to ensure continuous quality improvement in HEIs.
The “PASUC President’s Time” session, by Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, addressed the “Challenges and Opportunities for SUCs,” sparking insightful dialogue and collaboration among attendees.
The conference culminated on the third day with the presentation of awards to top-performing universities and colleges in various accreditation categories, acknowledging their dedication to excellence.
SKSU’s participation in this conference not only enriched the discourse on quality assurance and accreditation but also facilitated networking opportunities, knowledge sharing, and insights into the latest trends. The experiences and learnings gained will undoubtedly contribute to the University’s ongoing pursuit of excellence in the years ahead.
