The much-anticipated ASEAN Expo 2023 commenced in grand style at the Convention Hall of KCC Mall of Marbel on September 12, 2023. The event saw an impressive turnout as participants from four distinct clusters converged to showcase their collaborative efforts, aligning with this year’s theme, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”
The participating clusters, namely the South Cotabato Cluster, North Cotabato Cluster, Sultan Kudarat Cluster, and General Santos City and Sarangani Cluster, displayed their unique contributions to the vibrant tapestry of ASEAN culture, innovation, and progress.
This year’s ASEAN Expo was marked by the collaborative endeavors of various higher education institutions (HEIs) within each cluster. These educational institutions worked tirelessly to create captivating booths that not only celebrated their rich cultural heritage but also emphasized the vital role that the ASEAN plays on the global stage.
One noteworthy collaboration came from the Sultan Kudarat Cluster, spearheaded by Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), the lead state university in Sultan Kudarat Province. SKSU joined hands with neighboring HEIs, including Notre Dame of Tacurong College, VMC Asian Foundation College, Inc., Sultan Kudarat Education Institution, STI Tacurong, Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology, and Notre Dame of Salaman College.
The partnership resulted in a breathtaking showcase of visual displays, and interactive sessions, which exemplified the growth and potential within the ASEAN region.
The inauguration ceremony of the ASEAN Expo 2023 was graced by the presence of Dr. Nelia A. Alibin, the Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XII (CHEDRO XII). Dr. Samson L. Molao, the President of Sultan Kudarat State University, also played a pivotal role in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Key officials from CHED, along with representatives from each participating HEI, gathered to mark the official opening of the event. Dr. Alibin expressed her gratitude to all the participating HEIs, emphasizing their dedication to making the ASEAN Expo 2023 a monumental success.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Alibin stated, “The ASEAN Expo 2023 reflects the spirit of cooperation and collaboration that defines our region. The creativity, innovation, and cultural richness on display here today are a testament to the growth potential of the ASEAN nations. I commend all the higher education institutions for their remarkable contributions.”
Dr. Samson L. Molao, SKSU President, echoed Dr. Alibin’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of education and cultural exchange in strengthening ASEAN’s position on the global stage.
