DOST Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week Kicks Off with Enthusiasm

The much-anticipated DOST Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Week opened with tremendous enthusiasm at the Sultan Kudarat Cultural Center and Sports Complex. Hosted by the Provincial Local Government Unit of Sultan Kudarat, the event brought together a remarkable assembly of key officials, esteemed guests, and passionate advocates of science, technology, and innovation.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, the Undersecretary for Regional Operations of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), who represented Hon. Renato U. Solidum, the Secretary of DOST. The presence of Dr. Teodoro M. Gatchalian, the Undersecretary of DOST, and Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, the Regional Director of DOST Regional Office XII, further underscored the significance of the event. Students from various high schools and from Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) eagerly attended the event and were looking forward to enjoying the exhibits of different DOST partners.

Gov. Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu, represented by Ms. Soriel Sabio-Lib-atin, Board Member of the 2nd District of Sultan Kudarat, extended a warm welcome to all participants, setting the tone for a collaborative and inspiring week ahead.

Messages of support and encouragement resonated throughout the event. Hon. Emmylou “Lala” Talino Mendoza, the Governor of the Province of Cotabato and the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) XII, shared her unwavering commitment to advancing STI in the region. Hon. Teresita Socorro C. Ramos, the Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office XII, also emphasized the pivotal role of STI in driving regional progress.

The presence of TESDA Director General, Sec. Suharto “Teng” T. Mangudadatu, Al Haj, PhD, though represented by TESDA Regional Office XII Director Rafael Y. Abrogar, II, added further gravitas to the event. Director Abrogar delivered an inspirational speech highlighting the critical importance of technical education and skills development in the pursuit of technological advancement.

The highlight of the opening ceremony was the keynote address by the guest of honor, Secretary Renato U. Solidum, who was eloquently represented by Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang. Secretary Solidum’s address emphasized the imperative need for science, technology, and innovation in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.

During the event, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) received a well-deserved plaque of appreciation in recognition of its unwavering partnership with the DOST in promoting and adopting science, technology, and innovation. The recognition highlighted SKSU’s pivotal role in advancing the region’s STI landscape.

The event culminated with the historic signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU). This MOA paves the way for the establishment of the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center within the university. The MOA was signed by Dr. Samson L. Molao, the University President, marking a momentous step forward in advancing regional STI initiatives.

The opening of the DOST Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week was indeed a resounding success, setting the stage for a week filled with engaging discussions, collaborative partnerships, and innovative ideas that will undoubtedly shape the future of Sultan Kudarat and the entire region. This event reinforces the unwavering commitment of government agencies, educational institutions, and stakeholders to harness the power of science, technology, and innovation for the betterment of society.
