CHED’s National Technical Panel Conducts Evaluation of Proposed BS Petroleum Engineering Program

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Engineering and Technology conducted a two-day evaluation visit on August 13–14, 2026, as part of the University’s application for the preliminary assessment and issuance of the Report on the Result of the Preliminary Assessment (RRPA) for the proposed Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering program at the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) – Isulan Campus. University President Atty. Cyrus E. Torrena, DPA, MNSA, affirmed the University’s commitment to full compliance with CHED’s Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) and expressed his support for developing Petroleum Engineering as one of the banner programs of the Isulan Campus in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lambayong.

The CHED delegation was composed of ASEAN Engr. Michael A. Aloria, DTech, ASEAN Engr. Cezar S. Dela Cruz, MFSM, Dr. Aldrin D. Calderon, Engr. Moises B. Cabreros Jr., and Engr. Jhan Jkem B. Fontanilla, MSCE.

The evaluation was supported by the SKSU Quality Assurance Team led by Dr. Rodelyn M. Dalayap, together with Mr. Rodel A. Mohamad, Mr. Jabbar D. Bago, and Ms. Maria Mae Floreza J. Veroy. The SKSU-Isulan Campus team, led by Campus Director Dr. Rommel M. Lagumen, included Prof. Lenmar T. Catajay, Prof. Daniel Josh L. Toreta, Prof. Ivan Roy Evangelista, and Prof. Arnel N. Ben. The team presented the proposed BS Petroleum Engineering program and its supporting evidence covering program administration, faculty, curriculum, student support, laboratories, and library resources, followed by an ocular inspection of the campus facilities. On the second day, the Technical Panel and SKSU representatives met with Lambayong Municipal Mayor Hon. Francis Eric E. Recinto and his team to discuss the LGU’s support for the proposed program, followed by an onsite visit to SK Liguasan Oil and Gas Corporation led by Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Mr. Noel A. Catajay, which is being considered as an additional laboratory and potential internship site for future Petroleum Engineering students.

The evaluation concluded with the presentation of the Technical Panel’s findings and recommendations, followed by SKSU’s commitment to address the observations and sustain compliance with CHED requirements.
