Tacurong City – Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) successfully conducted a Tree Planting Initiative at the SKSU-ACCESS Campus on April 6, 2026, as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The activity was spearheaded by the Office of the University Student Government under the leadership of USG President Hon. Zandra Kate V. Asturias, whose dedication to student-centered and environment-driven programs continues to inspire collective action within the academic community.

The event was honored by the presence of the University President, Dr. Samson L. Molao, whose support emphasized the significance of embedding environmental stewardship into the university’s core values. Also present were Dr. Jayson A. Falle from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), University Student Government Adviser Dr. Florlyn Mae C. Remegio, PhD, and Forester Abdul D. Cariga, OIC-PENR Officer of the Province of Sultan Kudarat, whose attendance underscored the strong collaboration between the university and environmental agencies. Moreover, students from the NSTP-CWTS program and Agriculture students from the Lutayan Campus actively took part in the activity. Their participation not only contributed to the smooth implementation of the program but also reflected a strong spirit of volunteerism and a shared commitment to addressing environmental concerns.

A total of thirty (30) trees were successfully planted throughout the ACCESS Campus, representing growth, resilience, and the university’s dedication to fostering a greener future. Each tree stands as a lasting symbol of the participants’ collective effort and shared commitment to environmental stewardship. Furthermore, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) expresses its sincere appreciation to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Tacurong (CENRO–Tacurong) for their generous provision of two hundred (200) seedlings. Their support was instrumental in the successful implementation of the initiative and underscores the value of strong collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies in promoting sustainable development.

This initiative strongly reflects SKSU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which call for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, focus on protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, and foster collaboration among the university, government agencies, and the local community.
