TACURONG CITY — Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) President Atty. Cyrus E. Torreña, DPA, MNSA reaffirmed his commitment to student welfare and academic excellence during the SKSU-Tacurong Campus flag ceremony on Monday, September 28.
During his message, President Torreña expressed his sympathy to students affected by a recent boarding house fire in General Luna, Poblacion, Tacurong City and assured the affected students of the University’s support. He said that students who need temporary accommodation may stay at available school apartelle, with the President offering to shoulder the necessary expenses
On academic excellence, President Torrena reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the revision of the requirements for the conferment of Latin honors, particularly the existing provision involving a grade of 3.0.
He also underscored the importance of press freedom and responsible campus journalism in informing the university community and providing a platform for student and institutional concerns.
Reiterating his open-door approach to leadership, President Torreña encouraged students to communicate with him directly whenever they need assistance. He emphasized that students may reach out to him anytime without the need to secure an appointment.
The flag ceremony was followed by a community dance that brought together faculty members and students in an atmosphere of camaraderie and unity. The activity also featured the presentation of gifts to President Torreña as part of the Teachers’ Month celebration, recognizing the contributions of educators and academic leaders.
The gathering underscored SKSU’s commitment to student welfare, academic excellence, and accessible leadership, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through efforts to support students, promote academic excellence, uphold press freedom, and foster responsive and inclusive university leadership.
